Effective Business Writing For The Workplace

How do you convince people when you are not there in person to look them in the eye? The answer is to make your written words work for you. EQTD Consulting (EQTD) has designed a bespoke programme that will help staff learn how to make their writing reader-centred & reader focused.

EQTD understands that participants have the following as the primary aims of the programme:

  • E-mail etiquette
  • Identify the most common mistakes in writing e-mail
  • Ensuring a clear, positive, focused message with direct wording
  • How to begin and end e-mails; How to grab the reader’s attention and ensure that they understand next steps
  • Where to place information for greatest impact; emphasize important information and increase readability
  • Professional presentation: Answers to the most common questions about e-mail presentation, organize documents logically; present results and recommendations
  • Essential rules for correct grammar and sentence structure
Learning Outcomes
Using the above as a guide, EQTD has developed a programme that will ensure that upon completion of the sessions, participants will:

  • Be able to manage their business writing professionally
  • Understand how to make their message more accessible to the reader
  • Know how to summarize basic spelling and punctuation rules
  • Understand what the tone should be in business writing
  • Demonstrate how to write acceptable business emails and proper email etiquette
  • Demonstrate acceptable methods for writing business letters
  • Demonstrate acceptable methods for writing business memos
  • Be able to overcome their fear of writing
  • Learn to reduce the time spent in planning & writing;

With a dynamic combination of practice sessions and interactive exercises, participants will master the principles of producing well targeted, high-impact business writing.

Programme Delivery Methodology
  • The duration of the programme is for eight (8) weeks.
  • There will be a total of eight (8) classes, each lasting for two (2) hours.
  • Total contact time is sixteen (16) hours.
  • Each class will have no more than 16 students.
  • EQTD is able to offer two (2) classes a week (Tuesdays and Thursdays)
  • The preferred times for the classes are 5.00pm to 7.00pm.
  • Therefore in each 8 week period, EQTD can accommodate 32 students.
Programme Evaluation Methodology
  1. At the start of the programmed – Lesson 1, EQTD will conduct a Diagnostic Test which will:
    • Evaluate the ability of each participant
    • Indicate a benchmark of current competency
  2. At the last lesson of the programme – Lesson 8, EQTD will administer an End of Course Assessment. In this assessment, participants will be tested for:
    • Comprehension
    • Exhibition of learning from the programme
    • Actual email and letter writing skills

The pre/post programme evaluation will be made available for the management of APBS.

Programme Materials
  • EQTD will provide programme files for each participant.
  • Each week programme notes will be handed out which participants can insert into the programme file.

Upon completion of the course and the assessment, each participant will receive a Certificate of Course Completion – Effective Business Writing for the Workplace
